2 days ago the Dutch mainstream press was shocked by a Twitter group called Virus Waarheid. They won a court case against the government that the Curfew was illegal and had to be abolished at once. Almost the entire Dutch population asked: Viruswaarheid? Where the hell do they come from?
If they would have surfed Twitter like me they would have seen that there are 100rdeds of groups and individuals that doubt the measurements the Dutch government has taken to beat Covid 19. Measurements that had no results so far.
A friend said, they are in denial about the virus. I had to correct him. They are doubting that there is a pandemic and that the government did not take the right route. Locking up the population, closing down restaurants and other restrictions that ruin the restaurant and leisure industry. And latest, a curfew. As if a virus knows what time it is.
Now the VIRUSWAARHEID is not the only controversial group or single protestors. Here a selection: Café Weltschmerz, The Commentator, Ongehoord Nederland; @OmroepON, UP! Network @UPnetworkNL, Stichting Gezond Verstand @_GezondVerstand, Arnold Karskens @arnoldkarskens, BKCKBX @blckbxnews, Roderick Veelo @RVeelo, Een Oorlog Reeds Verloren @eenoorlogreedsverloren, De Andere Krant @AndereKrant, Lineke Niber @linekenieber, Marijn Poels @marijn_poels, Tim Oliehoek @timoliehoek, Stichting Skepsis @skepsisnl, Sandra @sandravogelaar, Menno de Bruyne @mennodebruyne and I think a 100 more.
Most of them don’t want to go in politics, otherwise the Dutch MP Rutte could take his bike and and leave The Hague. But even demissionair, the government has appealed against the VirusWaarheid courtcase. And the judge handling the appeal seemed to be a member of parliament. Never mind, it woke up the Dutch.
Every morning I surf the European press and write a few tweets about dictator style decisions by governments and the tweets by people protesting. @BonjourEurope or AngloContinentalView @rebergent. Even Spain is waking up. There is a group of police officers cooperating with protestors doubting the legality of government decisions. There is a Finish born lady, living in Malaga, waking up councils and other police men. HannaMarie started the initiative Dawn of Peace with Policias por la Libertad.
In Germany you will find the “Stifung Corona Auschuss” led by Dr. Michael Meyen posting daily press conferences with different guests. www.corona-ausschuss.de Worth having a look even if your German is a bit weak.
Last but not least Italy where 50.000 bars and restaurants disobeyed the “law” and opened up all together 4 weeks ago. Then there is Robin Monotti, @robinmonotti or robinmonotti.com, shaking the Italian population to take back their lives in their own hands.
As you see, I try to give the “controversial” activists as much media time as possible. First because I write controversial and satiric myself and secondly the politicians have all the airtime of the mainstream press. That does not mean that I do not respect the opinion of friends and family that follow the instructions of panicking governments. Fear never is a good leeway but it is difficult to get rid of it.
Let’s hope that the 2 sides come to a solution that is beneficial for the entire population and leads us back to the life we were used to. Having said that, a reduction of the over-consuming lifestyle, driven by TV commercials and overproducing industries is vital.
